Unlike in previous versions, in FIFA
Online 3, managers will need to have some knowledge in
formation/strategy/players to build the most impenetrable defense.
1. Basic Controls
While your opponent has possession of the ball, your controls will automatically switch to the defence setting. The following are the basic controls you need to know in order to regain posession and stop the opponent's attack.
• Press [E]+[D]: Sprint and press the ball
• Hold [Q]: Call for another player for cover
• Hold [C]: Do jockeying
• Press [A]: Do tackling
Note: The controls by default are set up as FIFA ONLINE 2 controls.
2. Formation and Defence Strategy
i. Formation
Recommended defence formation:
• 5-4-1: Formation with 5 defenders, mostly play passive and wait for counter attack.
• 4-5-1: Formation with 2 layers of defense. Furthermore, 5 midfielders will help you control the game easier.
• 1-4-3-2: Formation with one “libero” (an outfielder who is free to move in the defense area) playing behind your 2 center-backs.

Note:
• When playing defensively, your main scoring opportunities arise from quick counter-attacks.
• You need to set the aggression factor at the highest level for your defense
• You can incorporate off-side traps into your defense strategy
3. Players
To keep the likes of Messi, Rooney and Van Persie in check, you’d need defenders that can outrun, outmaneuver, and outwit these stars. Having a good defensive lineup is thus one of the most important things to keep in mind while organizing your defense.
i. Center back
Most important stat: Heading, Strength, Tackle, Sliding Tackle, Marking and Aggression.
These are the stats to look out for if you want to go head-to-head against an opponent with high dribbling skills or one playing the ‘Tiki-Taka’ strategy.
Recommend players: Pique, Vidic, Varane, etc.
ii. Wing back
Most important stat: Sprint, Strength, and Sliding Tackle.
To counter enemy build-ups and crosses, players need to match their opponents speed and be able to regain possession of the ball with carefully timed tackles.
Recommend players: P.Lahm, Dani Alves, A.Cole, etc.
iii. Goal keeper
Most important stat: GK Diving and GK Handling.
There is no worse sight for a manager than a stunned goal-keeper. Response, reaction speed and decision-making are crucial for any goal keeper.
Recommend players: Casillas, Joe Hart, Buffon, etc.
